Reel Abilities Philadelphia Film Festival June 4th

Dear Friends of SPIN,

I would like to invite you to be a part of Philadelphia’s first ever Disabilities Film Festival. http://philadelphia.reelabilities.org/

SPIN’s Norcom Community Center will be a host site on Monday, June 4 from 12:00- 2:00 for the documentary, Shooting Beauty. We are a select venue not only for the film, but also as a “talk back opportunity” with the film’s producer and principal protagonist, Courtney Bent.

Shooting Beauty, the eight-time audience award-winning documentary, tells the inspirational story of an aspiring fashion photographer, Courtney Bent, whose career takes an unexpected turn when she discovers a hidden world of beauty at a center for people with significant disabilities. Shot over the span of a decade, the film puts the viewer in Courtney’s shoes as she overcomes her own unspoken prejudices and begins inventing cameras accessible to her new friends. Courtney’s efforts snowball into an award-winning photography program called “Picture This”—and becomes the backdrop for an eye-opening story about romance, loss and laughter that will challenge what you thought you knew about living with a disability—and without one.

Shooting Beauty was featured on the Making a Difference segment of NBC’s Nightly News with Brian Williams.

There is no charge for admittance for SPIN stakeholders, but seats for this event are limited. If you are interested in attending please let me know no later than Wednesday, May 23rd.

Have a great day. Bernice
