1.      Our Next Meeting:  Is July 20th 6:30-8:30 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansdale.  The topic will be transitions.  We hope to have speakers to explain each transition that we face.  Sort of a transition 101 including helpful hints for early intervention.  We are definitely new to the whole transition thing, so I want to get a good mix of seasoned veteran parents as well as advocates/professionals in the field.  If you have any thoughts or ideas Email them to us.

2.      The first NDSS electronic newsletter The National Down Syndrome Society has put together their first enewsletter.    Click here to view the May/June e-Newsletter.

4.      Advice from a Mom on learning aids:

a.       Handwriting:  Handwriting Without Tears  http://www.hwtears.com/.  This is an awesome educational assistance and can be requested in any public school or even for homeschool in an IEP.  You might have to go through the OT for this aide. It starts with the basics print all the way to cursive.

b.      Math:  Also another thing that has helped with my children with DS in math is the Dot System or Touch Math  http://www.touchmath.com/  This is also in the public school programs.

5.      Buddy Walk

a.       SAVE THE DATE for The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Buddy Walk and Family Fun Day on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Villanova Stadium on the campus of Villanova University.

The walk raises funds for patient care, research and education for the Trisomy 21 Program at Children's Hospital. Trisomy 21, or Down syndrome, affects more than 350,000 people in the U.S.

This event is great fun for the whole family and includes a walk, food, music and activities for all. We hope to see you there!

For more information, please visit http://www.tri21center.org/, or contact Rebecca J. Elias at 267-426-5600 or by e-mail at events@email.chop.edu

    1. Raising Money for the walk:  One family organizes a beef and beer type fest complete with bands to contribute to the cause.  This family's team is predicted to be the top fund raiser for the walk, but it is only starting. See how much you can raise.

9.      Vitamin Supplements in the news.  A popular supplement company that implies that it can cure genetic ailments is facing the press and legal troubles.  I heard a Wall Street Journal article is in the works.  Here is an article from Texas about it:  Disputed claims boost popular supplements.  NDSS put out a memo earlier this year on their stance against supplements as miracle cures.
